A large Georgian house which was renovated and opened out a few years a go to form 2 separate rooms. The main bar is L-shaped and has the counter on the short leg, while the smaller, more relaxed comfy seating area is off to the side. The carpeted floors, stone fireplaces and various paintings around the walls give it a cultured feel, while it manages to be a good local and doesn’t feel pretentious. It offers hotel-standard B&B accommodation and has restaurant style food. At the back is a paved sheltered garden with covered tables. The pub is very dog friendly, treats and water being offered without asking. Ales on were Butcombe Original and Bristol Basin NYC, complemented by a keg range of San Miguel, Estrella, Thatcher’s Gold, Ashton Press, Goram IPA, Gamma Ray and Guinness. This is an excellent town pub in a small village, well worth the effort to come here, and I’d be happy to spend the night here.
