A country pub with a semi rustic feel inside, carpeted with the walls a mix of bare brick, white painted plaster and wooden panels. The main layout is as ETA describes below but it's obviously had a freshen up since then and also in the beer department as the pub is currently in the Good Beer Guide. The beers though not exciting appeared well kept, my pint of Landlord was more than satisfactory the other beers being Black Sheep Bitter and London Pride. The pub was OK but you're more likely to find me in The Wonston Arms half a mile or so up the road when I'm down this way.

A rather tired village pub mainly surrounded by houses but a fairly quiet location nonetheless. Parking was tight, but we managed. There are a couple of wooden bench seats at the front, though there isn’t much of a view. Inside, there is a main bar at the front, carpeted and with a few tables and chairs. There is a parquet-floored public bar at the back with a dartboard, and there is a more formal dining room at the side, though this looked quite crowded. The décor and presence of several gloomy old couples made it feel like a care home, not helped by the staff, who seemed quite miserable. It certainly didn’t feel at all welcoming. Ales on were Doombar, which tasted strange and wasn’t well kept, plus Pride and GK IPA; we didn’t try the latter two. Food looked OK but was priced on the high side of average. Probably passable as a local, but it’s not a destination of choice.

This is a very friendly place to visit. I was there in September, 1997. My first trip to England to find my family. Hope my sister and her husband still own the pub. Maybe we could contact each other. I have a very wonderful time while I was there. This is from your sis, Jo.
