A picturesque location and although not particularly good looking from the outside,it more than makes up for it within. The pub is divided up into several areas around a central bar, upon entry you are faced with 6 handpumps, unfortunately only two available on my Tuesday lunchtime visit,Bowmans Swift One and Triple fff Altons Pride.Quite rustic inside with dried hops over the bar area, pump clips from former beers, and a decent looking selection, pinned to the overhead beams as well as a line of suspended tankards and other drinking vessels.I was the only customer in at 12:30 on a Tuesday lunch time, possibly explaining the restrained beer choice, and I wouldn't be surprised if I was the only customer that lunchtime, hopefully it has better trade in the evenings and weekends, there are a few chimney pots around and about but other than that it is in a rather remote location, a lovely pub but one wonders at its chances of survival.

Situated in glorious rolling countryside overlooking open farmland and woods but close enough to Basingstoke (5 miles) to make a trip out from the station by taxi worthwhile if there’s a few of you, or alternatively the number 56 bus. There’s usually four ales on the go - Hidden Fantasy; FFF Alton's Pride; Palmers Bitter; Wadworth Horizon on my last visit - all in very good condition. The inside has a nice old-fashioned feel to it, with real fires, hops hanging behind the bar and an array of old pump clips attached to the wooden beams by the bay window (which seems to face the sunshine all day). There's a lovely well-maintained tiered garden at the rear which is home to some pub Guinea Pigs. Food is served. It seems to be a bit random in terms of customer numbers, sometimes it's pretty busy, other times dead.
I would recommend this as a glorious place for a late summer ale when the sun's out.
