Has had a clear-out, new owners and a refurb since the last time I visited (eight years ago almost to the day!), though the two-bar layout remains. Lounge to left with a muted TV, a selection of papers and a smattering of tables set for dining; very dimly lit here, I could have nodded off. Not much in the way of décor, pretty spartan. Right hand room is a public bar with darts and a pool table plus quite a raucous crowd on my early evening visit. 50's & 60’s classics belting out of the speakers. Three pumps, just a fairly poor Hogs Back on (though it tasted GK like to me!) plus a GK IPA clip turned. Not one I'd be doing again for at least another eight years I imagine.

Charmingly basic little boozer, five minutes from the station, down the hill in South Ascot. We were made to feel extremely welcome by the owners, given a "good evening gents" when we arrived and plenty of chat when we ordered our beer and food. A couple of Greene King handpulls are on offer, with the beer in reasonable condition. Basic but decent value food (Fish + chips for £5.50 tasted fine, with what I suspect were real home-made chips) was available. Although the interior design is one heck of a 1970's anachronism, it's cosy, clean and has a big telly, along with a pool table. Worth a visit for the friendly welcome if you find yourself in the town. Rated 6
