My recent Thursday evening visit to the Alexandra coincided with the weekly open mic night so there was some interesting stuff coming from the large stage in the front left-hand corner. The pool table had been pushed into the corner to make room for the performers, but the two dartboards up the left were still available for use. There’s some padded bench seating in the right front window and tables run up the right-hand wall to the rear. The central L-shaped serving counter supports premium keg and four hand pumps, but three were unused and the Doom Bar was off. The barman was very friendly, but open mic in a pub with no ale isn’t really my bag.

The Alexandra is a traditional style pub,something that seems few and far between in central southampton. I was the only customer in on an early Sunday lunch time, it's a reasonably sized J shaped single room, wooden flooring with some black and white checkerboard tiling around the bar area. The bric brac clutter in many of the high shelves mostly seemed to consist of plastic star wars and super hero models,the walls sported some film poster memorabilia along with a Jimi Hendrix corner.There is a beer garden I didn't investigate. The Bar itself sported four handpumps with only two in use on my visit,I had the choice of Ringwood Best or Timothy Taylor Landlord, I went for the latter and found it in good condition. Not a bad pub ,it could have done with a few customers in to lift the ambiance.

I came here for lunch the other day, wonderful sun and in the most amazing beer garden, with music. I had the homemade cheeseburger and my partner had the lamb and mint burger with REAL mint sauce. It was perfect. Great tasting food and service with a big smile, what more can you ask for. I will definitely be recommending this pub to all my friends.
