Old Boots left this review about The Malthouse
Now reverted to its original name, it claims “family pub and dining” on one sign and “gastro pub” on another. Not really a gastro pub by any stretch of the imagination. Many years ago it would have been considered a gastropub and it was renowned for its seafood platter in particular. The pub has been extensively remodelled since those days and is much like an urban pub in decor and atmosphere. Entering from the car park there is a bland space with a pool table, a few tables, a machine and a screen, venturing down some steps brings you to the main bar with a mix of seating and a number of large screens. It is low ceilinged and feels oppressive. The counter is L shaped and against the right hand wall, the main face has a large horseshoe with a mixed range, and a Camden solo. The short face has two pulls with an unexpected Taylors Golden Best which I didn't risk and a reasonable house bitter from Longman brewery. Beyond to the right is the restaurant which also has a separate entrance from the car park. The staff were friendly enough but the few locals in looked at us with suspicion.
