Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Ship Anson
Attractive Greene King pub located in a prime position between the historic dockyard gates and the harbour station. Originally two separate pubs, as can be seen with a very different look both externally and within the bar and dining areas. Anonymous furniture but quite a lot of local history pictures and naval memorabilia about the place. Five real ales available from the six handpumps, with IPA supplemented by Landlord, Rev James, Tribute and Black Sheep Baa Baa (£3.60).

Pub of two half’s as the outside suggests, a decent if badly modernised to look oldish boozer bit on the right and a dining area to the left, (looking from outside) a bit smelly of vinegar and chips. Traditionally furnished throughout and with bare boards and tiles. Obviously two buildings originally the divide is marked by brick arches, the left hand side was once another pub called the King and Queen, in previous days there were five pubs in a row here. Six pulls, two from Greene King who own it plus two guests, one was Black Sheep which usually rubbish outside the North Riding and Betty Stogs which was OK, the other two were reversed clips. Several t-bars of the usual stuff. Nautical decor of course. Barblockers very much in evidence.

What I recollect was quite a narrow pub has annexed and knocked through to the pub next door, so is now a reasonable size. Furnished in a pub company's idea of traditional, it has a good bustling feel and is reasonably pleasant to visit, if not especially exciting. The draught ales were Abbot, IPA, Brain's Rev. James, Robinson's Dizzy Blonde, TEA and Tribute. Quality seemed ok. Handy for the Hard Interchange and Harbour station.
