More antique shop than pub or any other drinking establishment, entering the double fronted bay windowed building you have a sitting room to the right furnished with antiques for sale, a little further to the left is a bar area with a counter at the rear. Between the two is a staircase to more antiques, not sure there’s still an hotel attached. The front left section is another seating area with antiques. The other peculiarity is that it is table service only, you take a seat and a young lady will take your order, you’ll need to be quick spotting what’s on the three pumps, I spotted HSB, Proper Job, Tribute and a horseshoe of national brands. The young lady will then appear with your drink, a tub of spicy snacks and a payment terminal. This is not a service mode that will suit everyone but it worked for my fellow middle class drinkers. I have no idea how you order a second drink of course, semaphore I expect.

A double-fronted seaside hotel with a bar on the ground floor. Half the ground floor is the bar, the other half an antiques business which matches well the rest of the establishment. It has a pleasant atmosphere and there is a warm welcome from the young bar staff. There is a lot of nautical bric-a-brac around the walls, and it does feel quite traditional, even though, as has been mentioned below, it was rebuilt after the War. The bar counter is in the rear left corner, but it’s table service only unless you manage to grab the solitary bar stool. Ales on were from Irving – Frigate, Type 42 and Iron Duke, surprisingly cheap and in good condition and served with complimentary rice crackers. Also on were Guinness, Moretti, Amstel, Inch’s Cider and Maltsmith IPA on keg. Opening times are restricted, so check before you come here, but it’s worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Expensive and not as old as it claims - part of the pub was reconstructed after the Second World War. Pleasant enough with some real ales. Accomodation available but a little tired, with tv's that don't work and showers that are temprimental
