This is very much a cocktail bar, or “Liquid Alchemy Lounge” as it bills itself rather than your traditional pub, and as such there were no draught drinks available of any description.
It’s quite small inside, being fairly long and narrow. The bar counter takes up a good proportion of the left hand side, and there is a segmented seating area off to the right at the rear. Decor wise it’s fairly minimalist with black wooden boards on the floor, black panelling on the ceiling with recessed down lighters creating an atmospheric ambience (or dark, depending on your point of view), and this was enhanced with candles on the tables. Curtains covered the entire right hand wall (cheaper than decorating perhaps?) and there was a row of chrome stools at the bar.
The cocktail list was far more concise than many similar establishments, and the USP here seems to be that you tell them what you like and they’ll conjure up something appropriate. I did that, and was pleased with what I had, although I’ve no idea what went in to it. The barman did ask if I was allergic to anything, and I noticed a raw egg white going in which may not suit everyone, but I thought it was pretty good. These were priced at £7.50. If cocktails aren’t your thing, there are unfortunately no draught options as mentioned previously, but I did spot bottles of Fursty Ferret (beer) and Wyld Wood (cider) in the ‘fridge.
