Chawton's village pub is the Greyfriar, a Fuller's pub situated diagonally opposite Jane Austen's scaffolded former residence.
The interior of the Greyfriar is quite cosy, with a narrow bar area widening out slightly on either side.
3 regular beers are Fuller's London Pride, Gale's HSB & Dark Star Hophead. I opted for the 4th choice, which was Dark Star Orbiter, which turned out to be my favourite drink of the day.
Many were in for the food and there were a good number of upper class families with lots of guffawing and tomfoolery. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was good and I was pleasantly surprised by this place, which I'd imagine takes on a different atmosphere when the tourists are in.

A Fullers pub, attractive looking from the outside and no doubt benefiting from tourists visiting Jane Austins house opposite, However I found the interior to be rather plain and charmless with mainly bare white walls and uniformly set out tables and chairs with dining in mind.Four pumps with three from Fullers of course , Pride, Snow Globe and Off Piste with a guest of Ossett Silver King which was in fair condition. The pub itself did little for me.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Greyfriars
Attractive-looking Fullers pub, located in an idyllic village setting opposite Jane Austen's House and museum. Inside, it has a 'L'-shaped layout with most tables set out for dining. Full of tourists, of course, but there were also a few locals at the side of bar. Traditional furniture and decor. Small patio beer garden to rear. HSB, Pride and Seafarers (£3.35, and in fine form) available from the handpumps.
