Just opposite Greenfield station and so occasionally subject to Rail Ale Trail crowds,this traditional boozer has been a long time GBG entry.There are two sides,left to a smaller lounge where the servery has the handpump for regular Millstone Tiger Rut,while the right side is larger with bench seating around the periphery .There is a flatscreen and internal brewers tudor and this room hosts regular live music on Fridays,Saturday and Sundays.There is also a side room with a pool table and darts board.
There is a beer garden with fine views over the valley to the moors opposite and the pub feels a comfortable,friendly community local.The real ale on my trip besides the Tiger Rut was TT Boltmaker and Landlord and Ossett White Rat (NBSS 3.5).I liked this boozer and would happily return,it a short ,sharp uphill walk from the canal.

GBG 2024 pub and from the beer board, you can see they take their beers seriously. Nothing wrong with the quality.

Enter into a porch and have the choice of two bars - I went right, into a lounge. Oval bar separates the back drinkers bar.

Looked at the beers. Ordered an Ossett White Rat. Came here to see if anyone else thought £5 for a pint of cask in Oldham was expensive.

Trains only run hourly - so I was forced to stay for a second. I asked if all the beers on the board were on to be told "yes". Except the Boltmaker. And the Landlord.

Another White Rat it was.

A fine looking pub from the outside, but disappointingly a bland and featureless interior. We visited here on a late Saturday afternoon, hoping the place had quietened down. They call this train line the "real ale train line" thanks to Oz Clark and James May back in the day. Unfortunately the majority of the drinkers were hens and stags getting blotto on lager and wine. This pub also offers the drinkers plastic glasses so they can take their drinks on to the station platform and onto the train. Still it's keeping the pub open, I suppose, so good luck to them. Six pumps, with four in use on our visit, we did spot a locale, which was from Donkey stone Bad Ass Blonde, which was fine.
