This is a proper locals local. It's a bit of a walk, all uphill, from Shaw town centre, but it's worth it. 2 separate rooms entered through different doors. The tap room on the left and a larger lounge on the right. The lounge looked very comfortable when I entered but it was empty as it was early Friday evening, about 6, so I went into the tap room and I was very glad that I did. I got a very friendly welcome from the regulars and the landlord and was soon involved in some of the banter that was going on. There's only 1 cask beer on the bar and as this is a Lees tied house it was Lees Bitter. This was a decent pint and as the banter was so friendly I stayed for another. This was a good move as at 6:30 the landlord appeared with 2 large trays of bread & butter plus a large bowl of sausages. A free sausage butty was just what was required at the time as I'd been out since 2:45. There's a couple of TV screens and horse racing is definitely a favourite here as there are betting slips on the bar and the TV was showing ATR. It's a really good friendly pub and I'll make a point of walking up here next time I'm in Shaw. Long may it continue to thrive. In general this would normally be a 7, but for the sheer friendliness (and the sausage butty) I'm going to give it an 8.
