Popped during a flying visit to the town on the basis of its Good Beer Guide entry. A large traditionally stone-built pub, the outside looked smart. The interior had clearly just been recently upgraded in a more modern style, everything having the air of being brand-new and barely worn. There were a number of handpulls but only a couple of ales actually available. My Otter was a good drop nonetheless. It was nice enough as an experience but the over-new interior didn’t allow me to settle in as much as I’d have liked.
If this is GBG standard there clearly isn’t much competition elsewhere in the town, which is odd given the demographic.

The Waggon and Horses is a decent looking pub that is stone built and to the east of the town centre.
This was quite a smart and comfortable pub and there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Black Sheep bitter which was a decent drink the other beer was London Pride.
Pub visited 3 August 2002.
