Ian Mapp left this review about The Railway

24 hours after my visit and I am still seething about the Railway.

An unassuming back-street pub - long, with an added restaurant to made body of the pub. All decorated in pink, which matches the pastel colours of the terraced street.

I went in, ordered a Bristol Beer Factory Fortitude - somewhere just north of a fiver. Not too bad, the pint was good (Its a Good Beer Guide regular). I enjoyed the blues music outside in the sunshine.

With an hour to kill before my train, I went for a second pint. They had Nothing Bound - a craft beer brewery very local to me and visited often - the Count Me Out (oh, the irony) - a 6% Keg.

I ordered it, it was poured, I was then told the price. £7.80.

£7.80 for a 6% Keg.

I messaged the brewer at NoBo to ask if I had found the most expenisve of his wares. He said he could not answer that but the Thai Food here is lovely!

I simply cannot believe that a) they charge this and more importantly b) don't double check with new patrons before pouring.

Not only did it leave a nasty taste (metaphorically, as the beer was delicious) it has made me question whether I want to continue exploring new pubs.

My hobby for the last 30 years.

If I dont continue, its your fault - Cheltenham's Railway.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Railway

Situated to the western side of the town centre, the Railway was my favourite pub of the day in Gloucestershire. Whilst there are undoubtedly better pubs in Cheltenham, I would certainly include this in any crawl of the town.

As you enter, there is a door into a small snug to the right-hand side with the main bar and dining areas through a door to the left. There is one long and narrow room with further outdoor space beyond. Many tables (including in the snug) were reserved. In fact, when we passed by again much later in the evening, the pub was doing a roaring trade with food. My only slight criticism was that it was all a little dark inside, with the paint job not doing much to help.

We were there only for drinks. With 3 real ales and a cider on handpull, it was a good choice to have. The 3 real ales were Bristol Beer Factory Fortitude & Power Couple & Gloucester Session IPA. The cider was Pulp Pornstar Martini.

With friendly staff and a nice atmosphere, this was a good start to a short crawl around Cheltenham on foot.

Old Boots left this review about The Railway

A back street pub that’s hard to read, two bars; a snug and a lounge, the snug was empty so I used the lounge. Tables and chairs by the counter and on a balustraded area up a ramp, further back it has bench seating, pews and tables and chairs giving a restaurant feel to the place. Four pulls of small West Country brewery beers and ten kegs mostly of interest. An eclectic mix of decor stuff, the light fittings are old kettles with the bottoms cut off, there’s a boar’s head, pressure gauges, a railway map and a load of mirrors. Studenty clientele or maybe some thirty somethings not letting go. It’s GBG2022 listed. The snug, from what I could see was much more basic. Nicely fitted out gents. It also has a garden-y bit.
