The Mousetrap Inn was our final stop of the day in Gloucestershire. I was expecting a little more, as it can be found in the Good Beer Guide. However, this is very much a dining establishment that happens to sell beer, rather than a pub serving meals. Priority is given to those dining, with all tables reserved or being used by diners.

Drinkers were in attendance, but had to congregate around the bar or stand outside at the front of the pub in the cold. Getting served was difficult due to the crowds at the bar. Of course, those dining could order drinks from the comfort of their table.

Hook Norton Hooky & Old Hooky are the regular beers. The guest beer was North Cotswold Tumbling Jack. Keg ciders were Oldfield's Hooky & Hawkstone Hedgerow.

We decided to occupy a table laid out for food near the bar, but were promptly moved on by who I took to be the landlord. In his favour, he did suggest another table we could sit at in what looked to be an extension to the original pub on the right-hand side.

There is a small car park to the side of the pub. Failing this, you are allowed to park on the street during the evening.

Perhaps a Saturday evening was not the best time to appreciate this pub. I can imagine there would be a much nicer atmosphere on quieter evenings or outside of meal times.

Only Good Beer Guide 2020 Entry in the immediate area - including the larger Stow on the Wold.

Its slightly off the tourist centre - but not far. Hence he reason I'd not found it before.

Gorgeous Honey Stone Building. Single roomed, setup mainly for dining. The drinker has not been forgotten - high stools at the bar and a comfy looking couple of leather sofas. Three real ales on - two locALE and a Titantic that wasn't Plum Porter. I had a perfect stroud brewery Fall - a smoky bitter. Little sample jars showed the colour and all three were a dark brown chestnut. Strange not to see more variety. £4

Friendly landlord and popular for food - so book if you are thinking of eating. many were turned away.

The Mousetrap Inn has a square open plan bar area that is split up by a couple of supporting pillars. There is also a strip of seating to the right of the pub that was set for dining. Seating is found throughout and there is a small bar in the right rear corner where a limited draught selection is available. There are also three hand pumps that were drawing Hook Norton Brewery’s Old Hooky, Butcombe’s rare Breed and Wye Valley’s HPA during my visit on Saturday night. Lunch is available from midday until 14:00 Tuesday to Sunday when main dishes are available for around £10. Dinner is served from 18:30 until 21:00 Tuesday until Saturday with main meals starting at £12.
There were a handful of other customers who knew the landlord so I took them to be locals rather than tourists who had flocked to this area earlier in the day. I didn’t spot any televisions, but there was some low background music playing.
Outside the front of the pub are a few picnic tables that face the adjacent road.

All of the pubs in this area are geared towards the tourist trade and they would be stupid not to, but this one had slightly more of a proper pub feel than the others. The only real gripe I have is that the welcome I received wasn’t the friendliest.
