This branch of Wetherspoon's is much larger than it initially appears. There are entrances on two separate streets, with the pub spanning the two. There are a couple of bars but only the main bar at the Western Road end appearing to be manned on my Monday afternoon visit.
The pub is carpeted, apart from laminate flooring around the bars. A central section opens up and has a tall ceiling with skylights. This section appeared to be the most popular area of the pub for locals and walls contained some artwork. Flags of World Cup nations were on display, with a TV showing Sky Sports News minus sound. The usual 'spoon's pictures of the local area can also be seen.
A beer garden can be found to the side of the central area, whilst there was a quieter side room at the Clifftown Road end of the premises.
Sharp's Doom Bar & Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best are the regular cask ales. Guests were Greene King Abbot Reserve, Moorhouse's Pendle Witches Brew, Orkney Red MacGregor, Stonehenge Pigswill, Lancaster Red & Mauldon's Cuckoo. An Exmoor Gold pumpclip could additionally be found on the bar that appeared closed. That beer was also unavailable via their app. So, I doubt it was actually available. Ciders were Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon & Weston's Old Rosie.
A fairly typical old branch of this chain which was busy for a Monday but suffered from the usual lackadaisical service. You know what you are getting. On my last visit to Southend many years ago, this would probably have been the best pub in town. Thankfully, options in Southend have improved these days. So, this is by no means an essential stop on any Southend tour. But it still makes the Good Beer Guide.

A jumbo old skool (1994) Spoons housed in a an attractive converted Post Office with two entrances at either end, two separate areas and two separate bars – most of Roger’s description from 2008 still holds. It was rammed and I literally got the last table available. A glimmer of joy at the bar as the Manager’s Special proclaimed that all cask ales were £1.49 which took my pint down to a quid with a Timbo Token; the reduction made sense, as little cask was shifting here in the heat (and it showed, my Hanlons Stormstay was NBSS 2). As Aqualung correctly predicted many years ago, it is indeed horrendous on fine sunny days. 6.5

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Last Post (JD Wetherspoon)
Very large 'spoons in a converted main Post Office, featuring two bars and entrances (one at each end of the building). Usual furniture and decor in a wide range of seating areas. Particularly good selection of real ales from a total of 18 handpumps, including various Nethergate beers such as the seasonal Lemon Head (£2.30).
