Following several visits over the last few month, we have found the place empty most times with disengaged staff and the beer selection has not been to our taste.
This pub has consistently produced a selection of good beers in good condition and considering the success of the festivals, Beer & Cider with live music during Easter and September with over 30 real ales, there is little more a discerning beer drinker could wish for. The staff are knowledgeable about the beers & you can always request a taster & they will source your favourite beer on request if at all possible. There are always 6 hand pumps all serving top notch ales of which 4 rotate with a constantly changing selection, so there is always 1 you will like. Voted the Pub of the Year 2009 by South East Essex CAMRA you will probably not find such a consistently good selection of beer anywhere locally

went to the pub on sat 15th the beer was off the bar was empty, that might be why the beer was off the landlord was grumpy, better of in the golden lion beer better customers more fun.

Had a nice pint of Maldon Gold which was very nice.According to Danny the new govenor,Maldon Gold and Sharps Special will be their regular beers with guest beers always on tap, Good luck to both Danny and Caroline as they are very nice people
