My wife and I stayed at the Green Man Hotel on Wednesday and Thursday night at the end of May. We found the room, which was located in a separate block at the rear of the pub, to be comfortable and value for money. Also at the rear of the pub is a very big car park that is hidden from some picnic tables that are found within a paved and pebbled beer garden.

The interior of the pub consists of a very large L shaped restaurant to the left that has rustic décor including exposed beams and columns. The kitchen is open all day until 22:00 with last orders being at 21:45. The mains range between £9.99 for beer battered cad and chips and £19.99 for a 14oz porterhouse steak. There are various meal deals throughout the week such as burger night.

The bar area is located to the right of the entrance. In here is a bar that was stocked with standard draught alongside San Miguel and supports three hand pumps. During our visit these were drawing Greene King’s Abbot Ale, Black Sheep Brewery’s Golden Sheep and Sharp’s Doom Bar. Further to the right are a separate seating area and access to the toilets.

I think that the overriding memory of this pub and hotel was the service that was first class. Smiles and politeness that was genuine rather than forced. I didn’t mind handing over my hard earned and I just wish more places had this attitude. As a pub this is not a place I would go out of my way to visit again because I like a traditional boozer and this did have an air of hotel about it. However if I needed to be located in this general area again I wouldn’t hesitate to book another couple of nights.
