I have been visiting this pub occasionally for over forty years and went to it late on a warm Friday evening. Unfortunately my visit coincided with a meeting of the ignorant poser club. The pub is still a lovely place, with four real ales available. Worth visiting, especially if you have not been there before, but choose a quiet session.

This is a charming, small country pub situated in rolling countryside with great views from the garden. The interior is traditional with some exposed beams ,plates decorating the walls and a wood burner to add to the charm. The furniture throughout is traditional and there was no sign of screens, fruit machines or muzak to spoil the friendly atmosphere.Food is the main focus, and tables in both sections ( at different levels) either side of the modest bar were set for dining, although no one would mind these being occupied by drinkers. There is some room around the bar for a spot of vertical drinking if preferred.
Mains are generally around £10 ,while sandwiches with salad will set you back £4.The menu looked more adventurous than mentioned on the pub website.Four handpumps with London Pride always on ,and DarkStar Hophead and Bath Barnstormer guests on my trip.Ale in good condition as you would expect from this GBG regular and my Barnstormer at £3 was good value.Be aware that cards are not accepted, cash only and lunchtime food ends at 2pm.
I was served by a most courteous woman who I took to be the landlady and so I did not share the same experience as the previous two posters.I would be most happy to return to this traditional rural pub which is surprisingly near the metropolis, yet difficult to find without a satnav.

Visited here for lunch today after a 5 mile country ramble with a friend. We were greeted by a very unfriendly elderly barman, who we assumed to be the landlord. After some confussion over table arrangements he became agresssive and abusive. I requested our money back and left. This guy had the worst customer services skills I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. A dreadful experience.
