The Kicking Dickey seemed like a rather strange name for a pub. It's a Greene King pub on the southern outskirts of Kicking Dickey. I didn't have particularly high hopes for this place, but was pleasantly surprised.
Just the one Greene King ale was on - Opening Session, an easy drinking IPA that went down quite nicely. There's an open-plan bar area with enough tables to seat everybody happily. The England game was showing on a TV at the end of the room, whilst 2 typical Essex couples sat at one table with their dogs. The one woman's language was fairly abysmal.
There is also a separate enclosed games room with a pool table that was occupied throughout my visit.
This is a friendly neighbourhood pub that I instantly felt at home in, something that I'd not managed to do in any of the other Great Dunmow pubs I'd visited. Who on earth would have thought that a Greene King pub would be the highlight of a visit to Great Dunmow?

Great Pub, good beer and selection of wines, nice crowd, food and a place to crash! Good to have a Landlord with a Brain, so good to talk to. I will return.
