Single room and wedge-shaped Fuller's pub at a traffic junction just to the north of the town centre. There is a mixture of carpet and bare boards with a tiled floor at the bar. The bar itself is quite long with some nice wood carvings above it.
Music was playing throughout our visit, with TVs at one end and on the bar showing an auld firm derby and a Premier League game respectively. There was also a games machine and a sweets machine. A dartboard can be found close to the main entrance. Dogs are welcome. There are treats at the end of the bar. Customers appeared fairly friendly.
On the bar, there are 2 banks of 3 handpulls. Pride & ESB were double clipped. Oliver's Island was on another handpull, with the 6th unclipped. The cider was Stowford Press. Food is normally served Monday to Saturday evenings. There should also be Sunday roasts. However, signs said that no food was available until further notice.
We found this to be a fairly unpretentious Fuller's pub. It is in the current Good Beer Guide. But I agree with the previous reviewer that it's not really worth the walk from the town centre.

The Stag is a nice old building which is quite a walk from the town centre. To be honest it probably isn't worth it.
Although from the outside the pub looks very pretty and welcoming, inside it's been Fullers'd with a modern makeover which includes two big screens at either end of the single room. These were showing footie on our visit which was being watched by a few punters at the bar and in seats whilst the odd group was eating. There's a fair bit of wood in evidence and plenty of deer pictures on the wall in an attempt to give a traditional feel.
Beer was Fullers Pride and Front Row along with Ossett Big Red as a guest. The Pride was in reasonable nick although not the best I've ever had.
A bit disappointing really.

Occupying a fork in the road, the building pre dates the Victorian expansion of the town,it's probably Georgian. However once inside there has been an unsympathetic refurb from Fullers with an overly long bar running down the righthand wall which would be better suited in a city centre bar.The open plan interior with a low ceiling includes two flat screens for sport and an unusable dartboard towards the front.Food is served and each table had a small candle, but most punters were in for a drink.Muzak was blaring out.
Although there were six handpumps, the three choices were doubled up and none of the stronger ,and characterful,Fullers beers were on offer on my visit.London Pride and the Six Nations themed Front Row(3.7%)were complemented by a guest in the shape of Ossett Big Red.
The exterior promises a lot more than is delivered inside, another rather dull Leighton Buzzard boozer.
