Now just the Castle, and without the award-winning pub sign, I entered from the car park via a raised patio seating area. I found myself in a carpeted dining area which takes up the whole right-hand side of the pub, so I had to be directed to the bar area by a waitress who spotted me in my confused state. The worn wooden floored L-shaped bar area is small with a counter that supports premium keg and Fosters alongside three hand pumps, one of which was in use drawing Landlord. There’s a row of seating that runs along the wall opposite the counter and there are a few tables in the corner where a television was airing muted Sky Sports while some background music played. They’ve also managed to shoehorn in a dartboard, but I still thought this felt like a holding area for the restaurant that takes up three-quarters of the pub. I didn’t like the vibe, and I recall it was very expensive, so I’ll not be returning.

A proper old style pub, wooden beams, openfires, lunchtime food. Plenty of entertainment through out the month.A most ameniable landlord & landlady.Great beers rotating as supplies are used, they include Hobgoblin Old Thumper Wherry and others. This pub has been voted the Pubsign Of the Year 2012 by the INN SIGN SOCIETY
