The Rose & Crown was a complete contrast to the other village pubs we'd visited in Essex. The car park has been turned into a large outdoor drinking area, with furniture from the pub and a marquee providing some cover.
There's an entry and exit system to the car park drinking area. But most people entering were using the exit, as drunken locals were blocking the entry.
The clientele was a loud and younger crowd, with some families present. Music was also being played in the car park. Drinks had to be ordered for a temporary table, with waiter/waitress service.
The interior of the pub was also open. It was also busy. The toilets stank. But I think that was the rather large previous customer who couldn't be bothered to even wash his hands after a sit down activity.
Bishop Nick 1555 & Greene King IPA are the real ales.
Not really my kind of pub. But the owners were clearly doing a very good trade. Full marks to their commercial awareness.

Formally The Great Waltham but now restored to its original name.A fair roadside pub selling three real ales.London Pride and Spitfire on as regulars with one changing guest.It has a couple of rooms and a seperate restaurant area.Worth a visit.
