Fairly small pub on the edge of the town centre. The main drinking space is on the ground floor, where there is a skylight looking up to the roof terrace. On the way to the roof terrace, there is a further small room upstairs with a single large table.

Four real ales were on the handpulls. Uley Old Spot is the regular beer. Guests on our visit were Butcombe Adam Henson's Rare Breed, Stonehenge Danish Dynamite & Electric Bear Two Halves One Glass. They also had a cider (Thatcher's Stan's Traditional) and a perry (Lilley's Bee Sting). Contrary to WhatPub, no CAMRA discount is offered.

Extensive changes since my last visit - it's now free of tie and been done-over. Knocked through, opened-out and it's a bit gloomy and rattly with a dull paint job. The parquet flooring remains as does the stained glass skylight above the door and there's now a tiled wall in a Portuguese style as well as an upstairs roof terrace (don’t get too excited, the views are of the back of other buildings). Seating feels very regimented. A large laminated shouty and unapologetic sign at the till informed me that cash is not accepted. Four fairly local cask and two ciders, plus the inevitable craft keggery. My cask Electric Bear Horton was in good shape (NBSS 3.5). It’s lost its previous charm and it's crawl fodder now rather than an essential visit, it isn’t one to settle in. GBG'23 listed.

Just outside the immediate city centre, this is a traditional two-bar Wadworth pub sporting five ales (four of their own and a guest). My Celebration Stout was in fair condition. It’s a tidy, well-run place. There’s plenty of wood cladding in the public bar, tankards dangling from the bar’s top, a very attractive stained glass skylight and daily papers. As Roger says above, we were greeted by a friendly landlord and customers and were made to feel extremely welcome. Whilst Wadworth beer is never really to my taste I’d make an exception for this one. Well described by Blackthorn, below, this town boozer is one of the better establishments in this part of town, though for some reason it has limited opening hours.  Live music from various bands is advertised, and there are now two pianos in the downstairs bar.  The glass ceiling panel was still there, but there were no upskirting opportunities of the sort to which Blackthorn refers.  The TV screens were switched off, and the music being played in the background was on the good side of tolerable.  It was a welcoming, friendly place with a good atmosphere.  Ales on were Butcombe Rare Breed, Uley’s Old Spot and Whiplash from Dawkins.  There were also two ciders, Lilley’s Bee Sting and Stan’s Cider.   Definitely worth seeking out, but check opening times first.
