10 years on from the last review, which was also pre-Christmas, I ventured into this nice looking building situated on the High Street in the centre of town.

There are a couple of rooms, with the bar in between. Locals seemed to prefer the area to the right-hand side as you enter. Toilets are also at this end and are a touch cramped.

Young's Ordinary & St Austell Tribute are the regular beers. There were also a couple of guests when we visited - Wells Bombardier & Mad Squirrel Mister Squirrel. I opted for the Mister Squirrel, which came out as flat as a fiddle and as cloudy as this winter day in Essex.

The barmaid looked a little concerned and also witnessed my concern at the apparent lack of quality in the beer. She poured a second, which was much livelier, but still somewhat cloudy. I tried it and it did taste ok. An experienced local was also summoned to try the beer and he rejected it, not knowing whether it was supposed to be unfined or not. I too doubt that it was supposed to be cloudy. Nevertheless, I'd not had Mister Squirrel before and I accepted the second half, as it still tasted fine.

Lunches were being served and children were welcomed. Staff are friendly and there were plenty of them too. Despite the questionable beer quality and the fairly mundane beer range, I quite liked this friendly pub and would happily visit again when in Billericay.

Went in just before Christmas for a sandwich&pint... Blinking awfull!!! 1 turkey(processed)meat & 1 (tinned)salmon sandwich +2pints of bitter £16???? I will be getting back to them as I even took a photo of the food... Never saw the barmaid again after getting served but complained to a young lad behind the bar who just shrugged! As I said it was just a day or two before Christmas & the were busy & I had shopping to do so we had to leave after quite a wait so...I presume its more of a music venue?
