After an utterly exhausting climb up Keere Street, we were rewarded with this fine example of brewers’ Tudor, sporting a lovely terracotta cartouche from former Croydon brewer Page & Overton (see photo); I didn’t know they traded this far out.
This is a genuine family-run freehouse, of which, carpet aside, I have absolutely no memory other than of a rather rude young barmaid (see below), so perhaps I’m subconsciously blocking out the trauma.
My notes state that I had a half of Kent Pale, £2.55 and fine.

This pub was nicely finished throughout with lots of dark timbers, which included a built in clock above the main entrance. The main bar faces you as you enter and continues into the rear lounge. I do agree with BF below about the tiny gents loo, I walked in and nearly knocked some poor bloke over whilst he was drying his hands. The relative size of the toilet to the size of the pub is quite bizarre.
The bar staff seemed ok until the young barmaid was trying to charge me for two pints instead of my two halves I received and after pulling her up she abruptly snatched my note off me. The pub served food and what I could make out from what was on the tables, it looked very good indeed and a handsome sized portion.

A very steep climb up from the Southover district is rewarded by a pleasing brick brewers tudor exterior and some original features inside. There is some good etched glass, the front section is traditional, carpeted and has a lounge feel while through an original door is a rear saloon with its own servery playing host to a private function on my trip.Between the rooms is one of the smallest gents lavs ,two really is company and it's easy to set off the hand drier when manoevering about !
On my visit the ale range was Three Acre Skylark Stout,Beak Lulla Pale (NBSS 4),Rother Valley Hoppers Ale,Kent Golden Pale,Harveys Sussex Best together with a Thirsty Cross cider. A decent line up,a worthy crawl visit. There is also a very decent whisky selection which enhances the pubs attraction for drinkers.
