Strongers . left this review about The Rose & Crown

The Rose & Crown is located just off Burwash High Street in a quintessential country village building apparently dating from the 1480’s. A small sticker on the front door states that it has been a public house since the early 18th century. In the floor by the entrance is a covered well with a light inside and the ceilings throughout are very low. I’m bang on six foot and my head was a finger’s width from the ceiling in between the beams. A ceiling beam by the bar has a ‘2025 Head Bang’ sign on it, looking at the tally there must be a coming together of head and wood at least every week. This carpeted bar is located to the right of the entrance where an L-shaped serving counter faces bench seating and tables along the front windows and an inglenook with a large log burner and some metal artifacts to the right. A long bench with a couple of tables runs along the rear wall to the right of the counter and a step ascends to a snug in the right rear corner. There are no televisions, but there was some background music playing. To the left of the entrance is a separate room that feels like it’s geared towards dining with tables that sit on parquet to the front and carpet the rear. Another inglenook with a smaller log burner sits on the left-hand wall.
I thought the service was polite, but only two of the four hand pumps were in use drawing Harvey’s Best and Old Ale. I decided to have a pint of Amstel from the premium keg selection. Yes the ale choice is a bit pedestrian for East Sussex, but there was decent crowd of locals in late yesterday (Wed) afternoon who were generating a decent atmosphere. If I lived in Burwash this would certainly be my local.

Traditional brick, timber and tile Harvey's pub behind the chocolate-box High Street.Three handpumps in use, offering Sussex Best, Old Ale,again in good order (£5), together with the grown-up Armada Ale.On our Sunday lunchtime visit, we found a good balance between lunchers and drinkers and good value meals. Welcoming staff, and good service.Limited parking, however, but there's a public car park a few yards up the High Street.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Rose & Crown

Fine old Harvey's pub just up a side lane off the picturesque High Street, and as traditional as you would expect inside. There is a restaurant at one end, but menus can also be found on all the tables in and around the bar. With three of the four handpumps in use, I found the IPA and Old Ale (£4.40, and in great shape) as well as the ubiquitous Sussex, and the newish Gold Bier was also noted on the keg taps.
