The Bricklayers is an L-shaped pub with a central bar counter that supports standard keg alongside Birra Moretti. I also counted four hand pumps, two of which were in operation drawing Harvey’s Best and TT Landlord. To the right is a small gated off seating section and in the left rear are a pool table and dartboard. Bar stools are found up the left side of the bar counter and a couple of old gym horses are used as seating along the front of the bar, which is a new one on me. The television was airing muted Sky Sports News whilst some background music came from the jukebox. Live music is advertised for every Saturday evening when I imagine it’s a lot busier than my mid-December Thursday afternoon visit. There’s a £5 minimum spend on card so I had to get a packet of crisps to accompany my pint of Stella, so the drinks are reasonably priced in this local’s boozer. The service was friendly, but I wouldn’t class this as a destination pub so being an out-of-towner I’ll probably never return.

A local in a quieter part of Crowborough, and having passed by a few times before, I'll admit that my expectations weren't that high. However, the interior proved to be very attractive and traditional, both in the large L-shaped bar (with pool table) and in the separate dining room. The welcome from both staff and other customers was friendly, and the Harvey's (£4.20) was excellent (with Betty Stogs being the other beer available from the various handpumps). Understandably, doing excellent business on a Sunday lunchtime.
