Strongers . left this review about The Lectern
The Lectern is in an area with a high volume of student accommodation and it has settled itself into catering for that market. I was the only customer early yesterday (Tuesday) evening, but this is understandable as the university term has finished and most of the students have returned home for the Christmas period. The interior of the pub is fairly long with a bar over to the left that supports some draught products and two hand pumps that were drawing Doom Bar and Bombardier. The bar is cut into two creating two bars. The right hand side has the main body of seating and there is a plasma screen and projector for showing advertised football. The right hand ‘public’ bar houses a pool table, another plasma screen and a jukebox which is free to play on Friday nights. The jukebox and plasma screens were off ten minutes before the start off a Premier league game and I got the feeling that the barman had put his favourite CD on to listen to while he buffed some stools. I’m not into buffing stools, but he can’t be blamed for wanting to pass the time on a quiet evening. Pub food is served and four pint pitchers are available for £11 during midweek football matches, if they are shown. There is a ‘student’ quiz every Monday night, whatever that is, and there is a door by the entrance that leads to ‘Lectern Live’ which was unsurprisingly closed.
I may have used this pub again if I lived locally, but I don’t and it’s not worth a special trip for a man in his mid-thirties.
