Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Three Cranes Inn
Set off the main road in the village of Turvey, I was expecting more of a proper village pub from this one. Indeed, we entered into an open plan space with the bar set off to the right-hand side and quite a number of handpulls. However, whilst it had the appearance of a drinkers' pub, all tables were laid out for diners. All the drinkers were either crowded around the bar or stood in the patio to the front of the pub.
This was the only Bedfordshire pub we visited with any more than 2 cask ales. A total of 5 beers were on - Marston's Wainwright Amber & Pedigree, Butcombe Original, Timothy Taylor Boltmaker & Adnams Southwold Bitter, the latter being pulled through by the landlord as we were arriving.
Whilst it's all very well having beers from as far afield as the West Country, Midlands, Yorkshire and East Anglia, where are the local beers? Surely there is sufficient demand to stock a beer from a local micro?
With no space at the bar and not feeling comfortable sitting at tables laid out for food, we retreated onto the front patio into what was a fairly chilly evening. This pub lacked the welcoming feel of other local hostelries. Having 5 national ales was a positive in a way, but there is certainly scope for improvement.
