Long narrow pub dropping down hill as you move further back in the pub. At street level you enter a sitting room with bench seating, there’s a square hole which communicates with the servery. Then moving down a flight of stairs you find the counter and more steps to a seating area with bench seating then down a couple of steps more are some tables and chairs and an ancient fireplace. Brassware, pewter mugs, mix of photos and prints with antique firearms as decoration, the walls are partially tongue and groove partially plaster. Four hand pumps but only two working with Hattie Brown Moonlite and Butcombe bitter in excellent condition. Run off their feet staff, as is typical these days, coping well. Busy, busy and very long garden which can be reached by side alley that also has a serving hatch.

Closed down when we were in Corfe last month. Shame, as looks the part and wouldn't take much to be overcome current competitors in Corfe.

The place oozes charm and character. The view of the castle from the garden is second to none. The beer is poured straight out of the barrel.
Oh - it could be so good. But with so many local breweries to choose from, the beer is that which you can buy anywhere in the country. And it was sour.
I walked in thinking it might even rate 10/10. I came out feeling that 4/10 was generous.
