A small stone-built village pub with 14th Century origins, currently owned by Marston. The single long bar room is carpeted. One end has a carvery counter, the bar counter is in the middle and the far end is bight-shaped, the centre being a chimney stack which has been left when the wall was demolished. The car park is comparatively large, though it does have a couple of cars in it which look as though they have been abandoned but are probably just being ignored by local owners as parking in the village is problematic. The staff were friendly, though they appeared bemused by the presence of strangers. The locals were the younger generation, which meant that the jukebox music was rather out of place given the village setting. Four handpumps on the counter, but only 2 ales on. I had a pint of 61 Deep, which was in decent condition. The food is basic pub grub, reasonably priced. It’s a decent enough local, has some historic interest, and I’d be happy to drop in if in the area, but it’s a way off the beaten track and not the paragon previous reviews might lead you to expect.

Very cosy country village pub with a warm welcome, nice atmosphere and comfortable surroundings with dining areas either side of the central bar. Three ales usually on and kept very well. The menu is nothing special - just ordinary pub grub but is good value for money. Overall well above average, but not the 10/10 of the previous review - that pub only exists in my dreams!

Very good food and best local beers. Had a great evening there last year and my daughter reckons it is the best in the area
