An excellent village pub, the very model of a local. It’s an inn in a 18th Century terrace, which still does B&B. There is a small garden on the opposite side of the road, and a larger, more attractive garden at the back entered through a small paved yard. Inside, the rooms have been made open plan while keeping the original layout, including the bar, restaurant and a raised snug area. The bar has a flagstone floor, two open fires and a woodburner. A high standard of food is freshly prepared from local sources and is reasonably priced. There is a very strong local feel, yet we were warmly welcomed by the staff and locals alike. Ales on were Copper Street 871, Hopback Crop Circle, Exmoor Ale and Otter Amber, plus Cornish mead. I’d be very keen to come back here for food, drink and maybe even a night away, and I’d certainly recommend it for B&B.
