E TA left this review about The Crown Inn
A Palmer’s pub in a remote Dorset village. The historic building is thatched and a bit chocolate-boxey, though it has been modernised and is more practical inside. There is a decent sized car park at the side, and the rear garden offers good views across the rolling Dorset countryside. Inside, the two front rooms have been partially conjoined, though they are still distinct, separated by the large inglenook chimney breast. The main bar has a high ceiling and partially carpeted floor, and there are structural oak beams on display. The smaller area to the right as you come in the front door has a low, flat ceiling and appears more modern yet cosier. There is a third room down a short flight of steps to the left; this is primarily a more formal restaurant area. Ales on were Palmer’s 200, Copper and IPA, all in very good condition, plus there was an empty pump. Keg options were Guinness, Dorset Pale, Orchard Haze, Carlsberg and San Miguel. There was very little by way of welcome when we entered, the barman appearing reluctant to serve us and making us change table for no apparent reason. There was a local family group playing cards, while the other customers were ramblers taking a pit-stop. Despite the good beer quality, the remoteness and lack of welcome would put me off making a special effort to come here, but I would visit if passing.
