A traditional town centre pub which, despite modernisation, felt almost cosy on a mid-week visit.
Beers on were Purity Mad Goose, Wadworths Game of Stones and Doom Bar along with 8 keg taps. The Mad Goose was in decent shape and went down well.
Bedford isn't superb on the ale front and that makes the Rose well worth a visit.

This pub described itself as featuring craft beers, and as I could see that it had a traditional exterior with a courtyard,I braved it past the bouncers expecting to be disappointed. There has certainly been a modern refurb with the long interior on a few different levels, but original features do exist. The first section by the front window is open plan with a lot of metal furniture but retains a fireplace.Past a few fruit machines there are sports screens but the the volume on mute. Two seating booths and then the long bar, opposite which are a series of two seater high tables, while further to the rear is a section with some high benches and more normal dining tables before an open kitchen. The courtyard leads to a very large beer garden which is rather cool with a series of brightly coloured small sheds converted to seating and a central awning with two more flatscreens.Muzak was hip but not blaring. The garden in particular is the hang out for young drinkers, and very popular on a Saturday night. On a sweaty evening the degree of lack of coverage afforded by many young ladies clothing made averting the eyes a tricky task.
The bar has 8 wall mounted craft beer taps from the likes of BrewDog,Camden and a sparkling cider, while the 4 handpumps were drawing Doom Bar,Kansas Avenue Zesty Jester (part of Hydes ) and Old Mill Liquid Gold (initially fine, faint tang at the end ,£3.15)
I felt a little old in here but I wasn't alone and given an ale line up a bit more interesting that some nearby GBG pubs, there is nothing wrong with giving this place a try if crawling around town. It's very much a chain pub with menus everywhere but a Sunday quiz starting at 6pm.You may get lucky in here, and also on the ale front.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Rose
Looks like it might have been a decent pub at some stage, but this historic building has been ruined by a partial conversion into a soul-less High Street lager emporium. Had to make do with a bottle of Newcastle Brown with my cheap microwave dinner.
