A traditional community pub, probably once a village boozer before the conurbation enveloped it, on the boundary of residential and industrial areas, largely bypassed by the main dual carriageway through. The pub, currently owned by Enterprise, can be glimpsed from the main road but it is easily missed as the turn-off is quite difficult to spot. The way is along the service road which leads to the pub’s car-park, next to which is a garden with swings and some seating. There is an array of picnic tables at the front, some covered by a large umbrella. Inside, there are 2 separate bars. The smaller public bar at the front has a flagstone floor and a dartboard, while there are some church pews for seating. The larger saloon bar is mostly carpeted and has more conventional seating arrangements. The staff were most welcoming, and the locals tolerant of our presence. There was a homely, local feel to the place, it was dog-friendly and there was free WiFi. Food was basic pub grub, reasonably priced. There was only one ale on, Ringwood 49er, which was in excellent condition and most enjoyable. This is a proper local, the sort of pub which is fast disappearing around these parts, and I would be happy to drop in any time for a pint.
