Komakino . left this review about Comrades Club
In existence since 1919, this members club just off Wallingford’s town centre piqued my interest as it had been declared South Oxfordshire Camra’s 2026 Club of the Year. Entering from a car park and down a small incline through a door to the left, it’s a predominantly wood-panelled room: very club-like, with an L-shaped bar to the left. A room to the right, accessed through a set of doors houses a number of snooker tables, and there were several games of darts going on in the main bar itself. Three ales on – Vale Kookaburra, Renegade Good Old Boy and Rebellion Knucker, with a fourth (Uley Harvest Special) ‘coming soon’. I didn’t appear to be charged the £1 non-members fee mentioned on CE and the club’s own website, unless the £4.50 I paid for a pint of the Kookaburra included the l evy. Heaving on a Saturday afternoon visit, I did get the odd stare or two, but it was worth it for a superb pint. In terms of beer quality, this as the Cross Keys are head and shoulders above all the others in town.
