Will Larter left this review about The Abbots Tavern
The owners of the Abbots Boutique Hotel next door were always being asked by their guests if there were any good bars in Selby, so last year they decided to open one in this historic building. It's about the same size as a micropub, with a couple of hand pumps serving locally brewed beers from Jolly Sailor Brewery, less than a mile away. It's not really a hotel bar either, though the toilet is up a little step into the reception area. There's also the usual keg tube across the front of the bar, and plenty of bottles of spirits and such. At the time of my 3pm Saturday visit it was initially pretty quiet, but soon a gaggle of young women tottered in and started on the gin and tonic in large glasses, mostly ice cubes and tonic water I reckon. Luckily I was almost at the end of my half pint of local Jolly Sailor Castaway, a not very good 3.8% golden beer (£3.80/pint) which was not helped by being served too warm and with a slight haze, so I slipped away through the crowd without having to find a diplomatic way to tell the barman (and part-owner?) that his beer wasn't up to much.
