Blackthorn _ left this review about Kask²
Recently opened on the site of what was for many years an upmarket lighting store and more recently both a short lived French bistro and an ice cream parlour, this is now the sister venue to Kask in Southville. It’s definitely more wine bar than pub, although there was a small selection of draught options available.
Internally it’s has very high ceilings and it looks as though some sort of mezzanine floor has been constructed, although we did not investigate this. Large windows on two sides let in plenty of light, and these were supplemented by a number of exposed filament style light bulbs. The flooring was some sort of concrete screed, whilst the paintwork was a mixture of cream and contrasting deep red, along with green on some of the supporting pillars, and the bar counter was also clad in green wood panelling with green downlighting on the back wall behind. A raised seating area was at the front of the pub, with further tables and chairs along the side and high stools at the bar. I’m not quite sure how I’d some up the ambience, but it certainly didn’t feel like a traditional pub. Table service seems to be the order of the day here, and the food options consisted of cheese and charcuterie platters and such like.
Unfortunately, there were no real ales on tap, although there were ten taps on the back wall behind the bar. Unusually five of these were wine and three lager, so the only beer options were Arbor’s Shangri-La and Lost & Grounded’s Wanna Go To The Sun. The only cider options were tinned. Overall, not a bad spot, and I could see myself popping in for a snack if I lived locally, but it’s barely a pub and has been marked accordingly.
