E TA left this review about The Shrubbery Hotel
An hotel on the main road past Ilminster, currently run by Best Western, the bar is now open to non-residents. There is a good sized car park at the back and the side, but not much by way of garden. There is though outside seating by the main entrance, though the best view is from the rather less comfortable car park. Accommodation, restaurant and function facilities are what you would expect from an hotel of this kind. The bar is reached through the foyer and past a sitting area. It has mainly comfortable seating, parquet flooring, a woodburner in a hamstone chimney breast and a large TV screen which was switched off when we visited. There was a solitary ale on draft, Tribute, which was in poor condition. Also available were Guinness, Somersby Blackberry Cider, Carlsberg, Estrella, Thatcher's Gold, Arctic Sky and Peroni. Prices were average for the area. The barmaid was hiding, so the receptionist eventually came and served us. Fine for a quick drink or somewhere to meet up, but they do sometimes host private events, especially weddings and wakes, mainly at weekends.
