Worthwhile micro and bottle shop conversion in a small row of shops, more suburban than village. Walls and ceilings are all painted in a dark green, which is somewhere between cosy and oppressive but just about works with various arty light fittings brightening the place up. A mixture of high and low tables are in dark wood, with shelves of some interesting tins and a fridge to one side and a smart bar behind. There is also a garden at the rear but they are having some difficulties with licensing so at present beer is sold in sealed containers for consumption outside. Speaking of beer, there are three handpumps and seven keg taps, including a Lilley's fruit-based beverage, as well as the large tin/bottle selection. Two of the keg taps are likely to be constant (Kirkstall Virtuous and Deya Steady Rolling Man) with the rest rotating, but a cask stout or porter is promised - on this occasion the local Trig Interloper. Other breweries represented included Verdant, Wilde Child, Ossett, Pomona Island and Track, with prices from £4.90 to £6.80. Condition was excellent and customers seemed to be genuine locals, it being well off the tourist radar. All in all it's a pretty pleasant place for a pint or two and worth a trip out if York centre gets too busy; buses 24, 25, U3 and U4 stop outside.
