E TA left this review about The Whitty Bar

The Thomas Whitty House was formerly a factory, part fi the Axminster Carpet industry. It now houses the cultural centre and what is now The Whitty Bar. The Bar was previously The Conservative Club, which like so many other similar businesses has had to open its doors to non-members to make ends meet. The bar is on the corner of the building next to the market place. It’s irregular in shape, carpeted, and has two separate open-plan areas. The servery is in the middle. The larger area is at the front, has TV screens, a dart board, some gaming machines, a juke box and a pool table. This room has a few tables and chairs for diners and drinkers, plus there is plenty of space for vertical drinking and socialising. The smaller area behind has two dartboards with marked out oches and no seating. When we visited the TV screens were off, and the jukebox was delivering a rather dull mix of easy listening and country music. They put on several events throughout the month including a meat raffle, live music and quiz nights. One real ale and one real cider were on draught, Tribute and Slack-ma-Girdle respectively. Also available were Poretti, Guinness, Thatcher’s Juicy Apple and Haze, and Neck Oil, plus their own branded Whitty Lager (which, we learned, was actually Holsten Pils). OK for a quick drink, but not somewhere I’d spend too much time if passing through.
