E TA left this review about Deckhouse
A wedge-shaped Georgian building in the middle of town, this was previously a restaurant called Bill's. Now it's a modern cafe bar, definitely more cafe than pub. There are no outside areas. The ground floor rooms are light and air due to the large windows. It's mostly open plan, though there is a small, more intimate room at the wider end. There is also more space on the first floor, though this was closed when we visited, presumably for a private party. The young staff were functional rather than professional, and service was slow. The other customers were mostly shoppers, and there was no local feel or pub atmosphere present; it felt like a poor man's Loungers, though a poor man probably wouldn't want to pay their high prices. Food was disappointing - it took a long time to arrive, ciabatti were stale and lukewarm, and fillings were low quality. No real ale or cider on, just QPA and Moretti, and these too took a while to be poured. Despite their hype and the grand building it's just another high street cafe that serves keg beer, and there are better cafes in Taunton.
