Strongers . left this review about Hops & Grounds

After a couple of weeks selling coffee Hops & Grounds started advertising themselves as a coffee shop and micropub, so after just over a month of them serving beer I decided to pop in for a visit with my daughter. There are a couple of café tables outside on St Mary’s Walk which is a pedestrianised alleyway that hosts some small shops and beauty parlours off the main high street. Inside is a square open plan laminate floored space with seating across the front windows and up the left opposite the serving counter that runs up the right. Available on draught were three keg products from Long Man, their Lager, Pale and Session Pale. The Pale was coming out a bit lively so there were a few issues that meant I had to take a seat and wait for delivery. A can of coke and pint of the Pale set me back £8.30 which is a lot to have a beer in what is essentially a café with some low background music, especially when a decent Spoons is just around the corner. There is a single toilet at the rear that has a baby changing facility, but it’s not disabled friendly. The Pale was fine in the end, but the counter is decorated with lots of old pump clips for products that have never been sold here which I find a bit misleading. I actually look at old pump clips on pub and bar walls and ceiling beams as being badges of honour rather than just mere decoration. This is a great spot for a coffee shop so I’m sure they’ll do well, but I’ll not be rushing back for another Saturday afternoon pint.
