Although a club it has been the local Camra branch’s club of the year for four years running and it is open to non-members, it’s reached by a tunnel under the railway from the station side then following a footpath. Finding your way to the main bar, after discovering the main entrance, it’s a standard plain room with bright lights, lots of tables and chairs (gold and red), a stage at one end and the counter in the corner. This one is GBG 2025 listed and has two beer engines, one serving Doombar the other with a palatable Brewsters Hophead, otherwise the usual kegs. The staff are very good. As it’s a railway club the decor is largely railway pictures with a board recording life members up to 1994. Most of the punters on my visit were enjoying a cribbage competition and I didn’t need to sign in as a guest.
