David Walton left this review about Regency Hotel
Visited 20/01/26. Multiple visits over the last 15 years. Originally added to PG and ticked on 03/04/23.
Single tap that has varied offering over the years, but Heineken on this visit. Obviously no cask. Some other beer offerings from the fridges behind the bar counter.
This is a rather splendid hotel bar, oozing charm, but not offering much for beer drinkers. The bar is to the right of the revolving door entrance and is a wood panelled affair with a tartan carpet. The bar counter is a somewhat theatrical affair to the left of the entrance against and forming the rear wall opposite the leaded glass windows looking out over the Promenade. A small number of ornate tables and chairs reside on the jocktastic floor covering, a single chandelier suspended from the high ceiling providing the main illumination in the space. Pride of place is the table in the bay window surrounded by half a dozen high backed chairs, a fire grate presentational only on the wall opposite the entrance to the drinking space and a grandfather clock perched in the corner to the left of the bar serving hatch, stuck on 9 0’clock as it has been all the years I have been staying at this place. The restaurant which has steadfastly fixated on Gallic cuisine is opposite the bar entrance through another set of double doors, the quirkiness of a breakfast offering of a small box of cornflakes offered in the morning morphing into a snail side by lunchtime. Stayed in many places on work trips over the years, but nothing beats this venue in terms of memories. Sadly had to be rated on the beer offering rather than the memories!
