Not the prettiest pub you ever saw, but I was made very welcome and the cask beer was in very good condition, so what more can we expect? There are two hand pumps on the bar but just Thornbridge Jaipur on at the time of my visit on a Tuesday afternoon. As I was cycling I had just a half, the sensible decision, but it was very good (NBSS 4, and just £3.60/pint ) and it slipped down a treat. The licensee is a cask beer enthusiast and puts great effort into ordering the right beers and keeping them in top condition, which has been rewarded with a place in the current Good Beer Guide. He talked me through his forthcoming beers, mostly pale and from local breweries, but he makes pre-orders of beers that he has had before - in effect committing to buying them before they've been brewed. This former club is now the only pub in town, but it's quite small, which is a reflection of the tendency of people in small towns like this to stay at home with cheap supermarket booze.
