It was quite exciting to see a pub reopening after being closed for 40 years. The new owners put a lot of effort into the relaunch, but clearly circumstances were against them mainly the location and proximity to the football stadium. It has become an awful, scabby dive bar. When we visited we had to push through a guard of drunken smokers, having taken time to realise that the entrance isn’t actually the former main door on the corner, but the back door. Inside, the single small bar was relatively empty, those already here were mainly the old and inebriated. No real ale available, just a rank of keg consisting of Guinness, Foster’s, Inch’s cider, Cruzcampo, John Smith’s and another I can’t remember. Disappointing, and much as I’d like to give it a second chance, this part of town just isn’t appealing enough.
