Arrived here as a friend's band plays in the venue regularly and this time it coincided with a time I was in Cardiff. In spite of the name it isn't a member's club, all are welcome at any time. Layout is pretty standard, from bar where the band was playing at the far end of a relatively small room as you come through the front door and immediately turn right. Bar runs along right side of the room and the tables and chairs are certainly packed in and the room was heaving whilst the band was playing, but in a really pleasant way. There was another back room behind the front bar area that allowed those who wanted to be at the venue but not in the room where the bar was playing. I suspect there is some outside seating area out the back but didn't venture out as already dark on arrival. Live music, often from leading tribute bands, are a big thing here.
Three hand pumps all dispensing. OK one was Doom bar but one was Twin Coast Pale Ale from Sharps and the other, IMHO, the excellent Jemima's Pitchfork from Glamorgan Brewing. Guiness also plus typical array of lagers and ciders.
This one wasn't on my radar but had no hesitation to add as a really decent destination in Whitchurch. Not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but it feels like an old school venue that gets a lot right and is exceptionally popular in the area (whether live music is on or not). The cask beer is very well kept based on my sampling two out of the three (you can guess which one from the above list i didn't sample).
