Blackthorn _ left this review about Goldbrick House
Recently opened towards the top of Park Street, this was formerly a cocktail bar known as The Florist, although before that it was also called Goldbrick House but was then much more of a restaurant. Spread over several floors it comprises of several different parts including Goldie’s Bar on the ground floor which is the pub part and hence the subject of this review, although there is also Alfred’s Wine & Champagne Bar, a restaurant and events space known as the Coach House and even a disco room called Boujee Wonderland.
Internally the pub part is all one single open-plan room with parquet wood flooring and a predominance of dark grey paintwork on the walls and black paint on the ceiling, although there was some butcher’s white tiling to the rear and a section of exposed brickwork to the left. It could perhaps feel rather gloomy with all the dark colours, but large windows let in plenty of light and this is where we were sat which was a pleasant enough spot to watch the world go by. Otherwise the style they have gone for seems to be rather elegant, with some unusual artwork on the walls and a mirrored backdrop to the shelving behind the bar. Seating was mostly padded stools, whilst the light fittings appeared to have been manufactured from old building materials, such as bath taps on the wall and a ladder on the ceiling.
Three were no real ales on tap unfortunately, with just Wiper & True’s Kaleidoscope on keg. The solitary cider meanwhile was Thatcher’s Ambr, which was a new one on me. Prices seemed very steep, with a couple of pints and a bowl of peanuts coming in at £16.35. As an upmarket bar it does the job I suppose, but it really falls rather short as a pub and I can’t see myself being in any rush to return.
